According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter, insiders in Apple's AI department believe a "true modernized, conversational version of Siri" won't be released until iOS 20, which itself will likely not be released before 2027. While an LLM-powered Siri upgrade is expected in iOS 18.5, it will initially operate as a separate model, with a previously combined architecture planned for iOS 19.4 now delayed due to lacking hardware, "ineffective leadership," and talent departures.
In an attempt to streamline healthcare documentation work, Microsoft has announced its Microsoft Dragon Copilot for the busy professional. Built using Nuance's voice-dictating and ambient listening technology acquired back in 2021, Dragon Copilot can listen to and create clinical notes, perform natural language dictation, and automate other tasks like making referral letters or after-visit summaries. The tool aims to "free clinicians from much of the administrative burden of healthcare," with the company's own early surveys pointing at reduced burnout and improved patient experiences.
Singapore authorities are probing a fraud case involving servers supplied by US firms that may contain Nvidia's advanced chips. Three men, including a Chinese national, are being linked to the Nvidia AI chips transfer case to Chinese firm DeepSeek, which shocked the West in January. Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam said the servers were provided by Dell Technologies and Super Micro Computer before being sent to Malaysia, and that Singapore is collaborating with US authorities to help conduct the investigation.
Currently available as just a standalone web app for generating 20-second-long clips, Sora is something that OpenAI has reportedly been preparing to integrate the AI video generation tool into ChatGPT. The integration could boost the appeal of ChatGPT's premium plans despite supposedly offering less granular control than the web app. Product lead Rohan Sahai confirmed during Discord office hours that future updates may also include mobile support and an expanded image generation feature.
TSMC has announced plans to yet again invest into the US AI scene with "at least" $100 billion in US chip manufacturing over the next four years. President Trump confirmed the pledge during a press conference, noting that this move will bring TSMC's total US investments to around $165 billion. TSMC's CEO C. C. Wei stated that the funds will go towards building several facilities in Arizona, which addresses the US' years-long concerns about being reliant on TSMC's overseas operations in Taiwan and wanting them to relocate.
OpenAI rival Anthropic recently publicly announced that it had closed a $3.5 billion Series E fundraiser at a whopping $61.5 billion post-money valuation. Founded by former OpenAI executives and known for its Claude chatbot, the company says it plans to use the cash flow to expand its compute capacity, advance AI research, and speed up its expansion into Asia and Europe. With its revenue now reaching an annualized $1 billion and news of Claude powering Amazon’s Alexa+ coming to light, Claude is on a good track to becoming a household name.
